The highly anticipated film OGBEDUN, produced by Seyi Akinsola and directed by Farouk Abisoye, held an exclusive private screening at Silverbird Galleria, Victoria Island, on Sunday, November 24, 2024. This special event set the stage for the film's official theatrical release, slated for Friday, November 29, 2024, in cinemas across Nigeria.
The film follows the story of Ogbedun, the unrecognized son of the late Oba Agana, born from a secret affair with a palace maid. After years of exile, Ogbedun returns to his homeland amidst a fierce power struggle for the throne. When a young monarch dies unexpectedly, chaos erupts as rival families battle for supremacy, leading to betrayals, riots, and a relentless quest for justice.
OGBEDUN is produced by Nigerian filmmaker and actor Seyi Akinsola under his production company, Astrocraft Productions. It will be distributed both domestically and internationally by Tribe Nation Theatrical Distribution.
The film boasts of a formidable ensemble cast, featuring Nollywood legends such as Prince Jide Kosoko, Jide Awobona, Akin Lewis, Antar Laniyan, Joke Muyiwa and Yemi Amodu, alongside rising stars Babaseun Faseru, Miriam Peters, Femi Akinyemi, Oluwasekemi Grace, and Sola Esan. Jide Awobona, known for his compelling performances in Lisabi: The Uprising and Jenifa’s Diary, leads the cast as Ogbedun. Prince Jide Kosoko, a stalwart of Nollywood epics, stars as Chief Otun. Miriam Peters, a fast-rising actress and social media influencer, takes on the role of Aweda, while Babaseun Faseru portrays Prince Adekigbe.
The private screening was attended by the cast and crew as well as representatives from various media houses. Reflecting the film's central theme, Seyi Akinsola remarked, "The story of OGBEDUN underscores a core principle that resonates with us all — that no matter how many people support wrongdoing, or how powerful those forces may seem, good will always prevail, even when victory seems impossible."
