Lagos, Nigeria - The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), under the astute leadership of its Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, Alhaji Adedayo Thomas, successfully hosted the 3rd Annual Nigerian Digital Content Regulation Conference at Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos. The conference, which held from November 14 to 15, 2023, aimed to serve as a forum for substantive discourse among prominent industry figures, policymakers, and stakeholders within Nigeria's rapidly growing film industry.
The NFVCB is the statutory body responsible for the regulation, classification, and censorship of films and videos in Nigeria, with coverage extended to the export and import of films and video works. The agency, under the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy, is dedicated to ensuring that films and videos distributed disseminated in Nigeria adhere to ethical standards while concurrently fostering the local and international growth and progression of the industry.
The conference, inaugurated in December 2021, has evolved into a pivotal annual occasion concentrating on film industry regulations. Its focus includes addressing the impact of streaming services on Over-The-Top (OTT), social media, digital platforms, intellectual property protection, and maintaining balance and equity in the ecosystem. . The 2023 edition, generously sponsored by technology and streaming industry giants Microsoft, Netflix, and Prime Video, delved into discussions surrounding the industry's growth and concerns about global standards for the regulation of digital content, given the advances in cutting-edge technologies. The overarching objective of the NFVCB was the promotion of rationality, global peace, and the augmentation of economic opportunities for all industry practitioners and stakeholders.

In an unprecedented gesture during the conference, Alhaji Adedayo Thomas announced the renaming of the event as the Peace Anyiam-Osigwe Annual Nigerian Digital Content Regulation Conference after the late Nollywood legend, Peace Maria Ogechi Anyiam-Osigwe, MFR. Peace, the founder of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), was posthumously acknowledged for her substantial contributions to the industry. The first female President of the Association of Movie Producers (AMP) and the inaugural President of the Federation of Registered Nollywood Guilds and Associations of Nigeria (FRENGAN), she was instrumental in initiating the conference, serving as a bridge between the NFVCB, as the industry regulator, and film industry practitioners and stakeholders. Representatives from the Anyiam-Osigwe family were present to commemorate the event and accept the honor.
The NFVCB also seized the occasion to celebrate and recognize the contributions of women in the Nigerian film industry. A panel session, moderated by entertainment lawyer Amanda Uzoagba, scrutinized the challenges faced by women in the industry and explored strategies for overcoming them. Esteemed panelists included Tribe Nation Theatrical Distribution CEO Anita Edwards, entertainment and intellectual property lawyer Sandra Oyewole, and Heritage Cinema Managing Director and CEO Shileola Ibironke, among others.
